Talk about taking something to a whole other level… This is one of the most beautiful interpretations on one of our favorite paintings, Picasso’s “Guernica.” In this video, the filmmaker recreates Pablo Picasso’s Guernica as a 3D sculpture allowing us an unique look into a world where nothing makes sense. A world of pain, suffering, malice and the ultimate crime against humanity – war.
Pablo Picasso’s Guernica:
Guernica is a painting by Pablo Picasso, depicting the bombing of Guernica, Basque Country, by German and Italian warplanes at the behest of the Spanish Nationalist forces, on April 26, 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. The Spanish Republican government commissioned Pablo Picasso to create a large mural for the Spanish display at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (1937) Paris International Exposition in the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris.
Guernica shows the tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts upon individuals, particularly innocent civilians. This work has gained a monumental status, becoming a perpetual reminder of the tragedies of war, an anti-war symbol, and an embodiment of peace. On completion Guernica was displayed around the world in a brief tour, becoming famous and widely acclaimed. This tour helped bring the Spanish Civil War to the world’s attention.
That was Awesome!
Yep, deserving of AWESOME! : )
when i was young, i used to sit with the image of guernica for hours and hours, examining and telling stories to myself of the image. this interpretation of guernica is touching.
thanks for your comment YK. i completely understand. in college, i ended up writing a paper for a Spanish history class on how the war was portrayed by artists at the time. of course, guernica was a central piece. this 3D version is just incredible! xx
