While you’re out checking out Ellis G, run upstairs to the Jonathan Levine Gallery where you’ll find a couple of great shows. We’ll start with Doze Green’s N.O.O.N. As an original member of the legendary Rock Steady crew since 1977, it’s beautiful to see not only his evolution as an artist but to also see the recognition he so rightly deserves. His work combines both futuristic and indigenous imagery executed through his fluid, melodic lines in a variety of materials and styles. Also, in case you were wondering, N.O.O.N. stands for “No One Observes Nibiru” which is the name for the 12th Planet or Planet X who some believe will orbit back into our solar system around 2012 taking us through a massive transformation. It’s definitely artwork worth seeing, especially live.
The other show, “Paris – New York, New York – Paris” is of stencil street art pioneer, Blek Le Rat whose work has influenced a whole generation of artists, including superstar Banksy. In this solo show you’ll find not only new works but also a retrospective of 25 years of his street art gathered on video. His approach is humorous yet poignant in it’s social commentary and use of iconic imagery.
