When we saw these photos & read the article in the Wall Street Journal (out of all places) we couldn’t help but wonder what’s really behind all this. We came up with a few scenarios and the one that we’d like to believe is as follows. Given Banksy superstar status, why would he so blatantly write over a Robbo tag that’s a reigning piece from an era? Is this Banksy’s way of pulling a legend out of a 16yr retirement? Does Banksy wish to shed light on a writer who was the first London “all-city” bomber but who has never sold a “piece” in his career? We’re giving Banksy the benefit of the doubt because it wouldn’t make much sense otherwise. The article has a great slideshow featuring the photos below and deserves a closer look.
