Barbara Kruger has been one of my favorite contemporary American artists mostly due to her courage to not only question but also make strong statements about our society, media and government. I first learned about her work in a visual literacy class I took in college. It served as a great example of how art, graphics and critical thought can be utilized as a means to wake us up from the sleepy stupor that plagues us at times.
