Shows We Love :: Tribute to Michael Jackson by Bryan Vargas & Ya Esta

Our good friend & primo, Bryan Vargas, has assembled an incredible evening of musicians along with Ya Esta for their 2nd Annual Tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. It all goes down tonight, Monday, August 9 at one of our favorite live show venues, Joe’s Pub. Let’s hear more from Bryan:

Yes, we did a tribute last year at Camaradas and it was OFF THE HOOK!!! If you missed it, here’s your chance to see our new expanded version. . We will be celebrating the percussive grooves and the funky guitar lines of MJ’s music and will play an entire set of MJ classics. But y’know done BV & YE style! You can watch clips of our 2009 tribute on our You Tube channel.

No moonwalking – just funky afro latin grooves. Last year’s tribute got us a photo in the New York Times. This year’s version promises to be one crazy party! This is a very special event for all of us, and it means everything to us that you would share in this night with us. So please come out, we need to see your faces in the crowd.

We have invited some very special guests to help us make this music special for y’all. First we have “El Poeta” himself, singer/poet Flaco Navaja. You may know Flaco from bands like Yerbabuena & Our Latin Thing. Maybe you know him from Def Poetry Jam. Or maybe from films like On The Outs, Pride & Glory & Fighting. Or maybe you’re seen him sing with BV & YE! We will also have keyboardist Pablo Vergara (Groove Collective/Brass Construction/Alfredo de la Fe) playing with us all night and percussionist/singer Julissa Vale (Yerbabuena/Victor Jones Band) joining us as well. Plus, we have some more surprises (that we can’t announce just yet) too!

This is our first gig downtown in over 2 years! Could you believe it? If you want us to keep doing shows downtown – then you MUST come to this show! If you don’t support, we can’t make it happen. So to all our folks who prefer to hang out downtown, now’s your chance to cast your vote for where you want us to play!

Joe’s Pub is one of the best & most prestigious clubs in NYC. It’s certainly one of our favorite places to play. Great sound, good energy, just a great New York music venue. If you’ve never been, now’s your chance. And if you know the venue well, then you can imagine how great it will be to see us there.

This is our last show of the Summer – No Camaradas this month (but we’ll be back there in Sept…). So don’t miss it.
