Mike & I were talking about the “Pale Blue Dot” and Carl Sagan’s powerful message, its relevance & perspective. If you’ve never heard this 1996 commencement speech before, please take a few minutes to watch the video below and share it with some friends. You won’t be disappointed! – Moni Pineda

Hi – I know whether what I am about to request is highly unlikely to happen. However, here goes: can anyone tell me the origins of the mediaeval-style image that is being used above to serve as the introductory image to your video clip concerning Carl Sagan’s famous remarks viz the ‘pale blue dot’? I must have spent some twenty-five years trying to track down that image. Rather surprisingly, it’s not in my 1980 edition of ‘Cosmos’ by Carl Sagan. I don’t know if the image is truly mediaeval, for instance, or whether it’s in the style of a mediaeval image. Unhappily, trying to track down pictorial images on the internet is a lot harder than, say, textual images. So if anyone can help me, I’d appreciate it mightily. Regards, Gray
I was recently watching some random videos of Flat Earth Society and this picture reminded me of what they believe the Earth truly looks like. Upon googling Flat Earth Paintings, the image above came up.
Try Googling Cammille Flammarion – Flat Earth, I think that’s what you’re looking for.
“it suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the earth. i put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet earth. i didn’t feel like a giant. i felt very, very small.”
