Design We Love :: The Floating Bed

This is something straight out of a sci-fi movie, something you’d never expect to see in your lifetime: a floating bed! Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars spent six years of his life designing unique piece of furniture, which is “lifted up” by magnetic fields in the ceiling and the floor. The bed can hold up to almost 2,000 lbs (900 kilos) and is anchored to the floor by thin metal tethers so it doesn’t float away. This awesome bed doesn’t come cheap though, it’s priced at over $1 Million, but think of all the extra storage space you could have! – Elliot Lobell
