My favorite has to be my first “The Dreamer”.

I remember when I first discovered Jose James. It was randomly because it was around the MLK holiday 2010 and I had been listening to a a bunch of music inspired by The Dreamer (MLK) even putting together a little mixtape. After having the great fortune of being on the Capital grounds January 20, 2009 to see Barack Hussein Obama sworn in as the 44th President of the United States, I will forever connect the MLK holiday with that momentous occasion. Still in a commemorating mood, I randomly searched youtube for “dreamer” and it came back with what I can only describe as an Earth shifting 7:03 in the form of Jose James’ ‘The Dreamer’. Although released in January of ’08, the song foreshadowed and captured perfectly what I would would see a year later in at Obama’s swearing in – “I saw the dreamer raise his hand into a day of tomorrow”

I could not believe I had never heard of this guy before. I couldn’t believe that a young cat was approaching the music this way. I thought he was a ‘new age Johnny Hartman’, but as I’ve discovered more of his music I’ve learned he is so much more than that.

Thank you Friends We Love for this fantastic give away! I hope I win, it would be the best b’day present for me (Apr 13). I have never seen him live, just as I never bought music from iTunes until I heard Black Magic. I bought The Dreamer too! And then I posted his YouTube videos so my face book my network can flavor what I was listening to. My favorite José James song is hard to tag, but “Winter Wind” I must say I listen to a lot, even though, the song “Beauty” is always playing in the back of my head during work. Good luck to everyone! Peace, love and good music! M2

“Made for Love” is a favorite in my playlist right now. The song is very soulful, melodic, and sexy. I’m definitely a big fan of his music!

  5. Del says:

It would have to be make love. If that is the actual title. Because making sweet love is exactly what I did. With that song playing as the soundtrack.

    Hi :-)

My favorite song by Jose James is in his new album “Blackmagic” and is called “Detroit Loveletter”. I grew up in the city of Detroit and it was there where I discovered Jose James’ first album and instantly fell in love with his musical gifts, the sensuality and soul that reminded me of the best yeas in Gil Scott Heron’s, Marvin Gaye and Hathaway’s catalog. To me he is the closest to what that Detroit Soul represented back in the 60′s and 70′s and the fact he chose to do a song under that name, captivated my complete reverence I have for him as an artist and as human being. I want to see Jose James because I have been a loyalist supporter of his creativity for many years now and it would be a blessing to see him perform after I convinced many of my friends in Barcelona to go see him and according to them, changed their day completely.

    Thank you!

    Juampa Gonzalez.

Love is my favourite Jose James song because it was the first song to pop up on my itunes the night I met my current girlfriend. It was serendipitous.

I don’t even think I ever told her that. :)
