Word on the street (NY Mag) is that Momofuku’s chef David Chang & Times writer Peter Meehan have written the cookbook we’ll all be reading come October. We would reserve this entry for a “book we love” but since it’s not out yet, I decided to write about the restaurant instead.
My first time at Momofuku Noodle Bar was years ago – way before there were ramen bars in every NY neighborhood. I had the most beautiful, creamy polenta with sauteed mushrooms, bacon & poached egg. The pork bun was soft, juicy and meaty with a slight sweetness that went beautifully with my slightly bitter beer. Lastly, the Momofuku ramen was spicy, tasty and full of delicious pork textures. Deeeelicious!
On my second visit, I remember having this raw summer squash salad with caramelized pine nuts, radish & mint in a citrus dressing. I still make my version of this salad and it’s always a big hit. The crudo was spectacular as was the marinated watermelon & basil salad. The stand-out dishes on my third visit was this simple heirloom tomato salad and a crispy skate on top of steamed greens.
If you decide to go, make sure to check their menu online as it changes daily. If you decide to wait til the cookbook comes out, let me know and I’ll come over for a tasting!
