Sneakers We Love :: Puma Suede Fat Lace
The Puma Suede
For any kid who grew up in the late 70′s you knew about the cultural shift that happened in NYC when these sneakers dropped into existence. For me, they we’re the first pair of sneakers as a kid I remember feeling that “I needed to have”. At that point my Pops was asking me, “Damn Mike, why do need these sneakers so bad?” For Christmas I ended up getting a Puma T-Shirt instead. It was the one of the Puma sleeping over the logo. I wore that damn thing till it fell off me.
Over the years, I’ve fed my Puma Suede fix with an assortment of colors. Flash forward 30 years. The good folks at Puma took the Puma Classic Suede and flipped it by adding a “Fat Lace” as the signature strip. A “Why didn’t I think of that?” ensued around the world. I feel like it’s another example of the incredible impact hip-hop culture has had on the world. Big ups to every kid who wanted to stand out and freaked their Pumas with ill lacing + dying techniques.
And to all the future style freakers, as Tony Montana would say “The world is yours.”
