shows we love :: fela!

In a country where dissent has become criminal, it is encouraging to see the valor and struggle of one man, his musical vision and political movement wrapped up in a thrilling theatrical ride. If you’re familiar with Fela’s life and music, you’ll be ecstatic to see his story dramatized so beautifully. Sahr Ngaujah seems to channel the spirit of Fela – from his physical frame to his facial expressions, while Antibalas plays the hits from his band, Africa 70. The choreography of Bill T. Jones explodes on the set and infectiously seeps into the audience transporting us to one magical night at the Shrine. Thank you.
