Artists We Love :: Emily Henochowicz

Emily Henochowicz is a 21 year-old art student from NY’s Cooper Union who was shot in the face with a tear gas canister by an Israeli soldier and has subsequently lost her eye. She was among the thousands protesting Israel’s attack on the humanitarian flotilla this past weekend throughout the West Bank. I read her story last night and it deeply saddened me. I thought of her courage and the courage of countless others who stand up for basic human rights around the world. I thought of the many civilian kids and families who are affected by unnecessary violence not only in Gaza but in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and countless other countries. I thought of Emily’s immense courage, boundless empathy and steadfast commitment to protest one of the many ills that surround us.
