Docs We Love :: Favela On Blast
Filmmakers Leandro Hbl and Wesley “Diplo” Pentz’s documentary Favela On Blast gives us an intimate look at one of Rio De Janeiro’s funk scene, also known as baile funk. Think Miami bass meets Brazil. Regardless of how you feel about Diplo’s appropriation of this music, the film captures the scene within the marginalized favelas of the city, breaks down the most popular “beats” & styles while translating the sometimes crass & hyper-sexualized lyrics.

Events We Love :: WorldTown v3 ft Moni & FWL
This Saturday DJ K7 of Chattanooga, Tennessee invited me to be a part of his music series, Et Cetera, WorldTown v3 and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ll be screening a few of our Friends We Love shorts followed by a panel discussion on global culture and music. Later in the evening we’ll have a big party where we’ll play bumping music from around the world. I’ll be DJing along with K7 and Miss Kai from Nashville, a lovely soul sister I can’t wait to share the decks with.

If you ever wondered about NYC skateboarding culture at this point in time, then you need to check out this great short film released by HBO in connection with their new show “How To Make it in America”. The film dives into different chapters on the good, bad and the ugly on the allure of NYC street skating. In the video you’ll find lots of NYC’s finest from Gino Iannucci, Quim Cardona, Luis Tolentino, Billy Rohan, Steve Rodriquez and more sharing their insights and war stories… Well done HBO!
