Sneakers We Love :: Puma Suede Fat Lace

For any kid who grew up in the late 70′s you knew about the cultural shift that happened in NYC when these sneakers dropped into existence. For me, they we’re the first pair of sneakers as a kid I remember feeling that “I needed to have”. At that point my Pops was asking me, “Damn Mike, why do need these sneakers so bad?” For Christmas I ended up getting a Puma T-Shirt instead. It was the one of the Puma sleeping over the logo. I wore that damn thing till it fell off me.

docs we love :: club culture 1988, channel 4

“When you dance and there’s a good message, man, that’s like a very ancient energy because then you participate in what the ritual is.”

This is just one gem of many in this incredible Channel 4 documentary on club culture from back in 1988. There’s interviews with the Jungle Brothers, Afrika Baambataa, EPMD, Biz Marquee, Red Alert – all from the hip hop side, Paul Oakenfold, Norman Jay, Kym Mazelle, Daryl Pandy, Cold Cut on the house side Danny Dee & Adonis on the acid tip. Soul II Soul, Yazz, S-Express & Bomb the Bass make appearances. It’s just great. They show scenes in New York, London & Ibiza – clubs, fashion & plenty of dancing going on. Talk about hearing so many classic tracks in one doc! It brings such a warm, good feeling – hairs standing up and all. Get up and dance! We’re having big fun! – Moni Pineda
