Tunes We Love :: Omar + Zed Bias, Dacing

Dancing, an Omar + Zeb Bias collabo, is pure fire! Loving the video and I seriously cannot wait to play this to a packed dance floor. This record will be released through Tru Thoughts on vinyl in early May. Summer ’11 is already looking up! – Moni Vargas

I began my trip at the Bay at PAWA Arkipelago Literary Series and this coming weekend, I share the multi-disciplinary stage with Chelsea Gregory and Yadira de la Riva. I will be doing an excerpted staged reading of my new piece, my mouth may not know the words but everything else understands, directed by Kamilah Forbes; Chelsea will be sharing her piece, The 6 Project; Yadira will perform an excerpt of her show, One Journey.
Festivals We Love :: Dance On Camera
Dance Films Association (DFA) was born in 1956 by Susan Braun to ¨further the art of dance film.¨ Fifteen years later, the organization began Dance On Camera. The annual touring festival showcases new dance films, retrospectives, photo exhibits, and gatherings for new projects and ideas to bubble.
Films We Love :: Bouncing Cats by Nabil Elderkin

Just watched this trailer with my mouth wide open. Nabil is a force of nature behind a camera. Over the years, his collaborations with music’s brightest stars has brought out some of the most stunning visuals to date. Straight love the man! Happy to see him expand a story into what looks like an incredibly uplifting piece of art, music and humility. Can’t wait to see this one!!! – Jaws Truly
Docs We Love :: All the Ladies Say

My B-Girling has taken a slower road than I thought (I proudly am up to 85 pushups a day, though). A good reminder to get my ass back in gear, however, is the documentary All The Ladies Say, directed by Rokafella, produced by Full Circle Productions with music by Kwikstep. I´ve been blessed to work with Rok and am moved by the team´s love and commitment to pushing the project forward. From dance floor to the home, the film tracks several B-Girls moving crowds stateside and abroad. It´s a perspective rarely acknowledged and for any lover of music or dance—especially if you consider yourself a hip-hop head—ATLS needs to be on your radar.
The final stages of production are coming up! A NY screening will be held at Dance New Amsterdam to help raise funds. Q & A will follow, and the evening closes out with live music and dance for everyone to work out their moves. Spread the word, show some love, and pay respect to the B-Girl. Admission $10. Learn more about the herstory of the project at www.alltheladiessay.com or www.fullcirclesoul.com.
Videos We Love :: Mayer Hawthorne

This playful video for Mayer Hawthorne’s “Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin’” from last September’s A Strange Arrangement features a gaggle of lovely ladies doing an impressively arranged dance number, frolicking around a Laurel Canyon-esque backyard while Hawthorne does a slightly less-impressive series of dances on the outskirts, serenading. Make sure to take notice of the cool camera work (the whole video is a single shot). The perfect remedy for the blues and blahs of a hot day. -Mac Smullen
