Docs We Love :: All the Ladies Say

My B-Girling has taken a slower road than I thought (I proudly am up to 85 pushups a day, though). A good reminder to get my ass back in gear, however, is the documentary All The Ladies Say, directed by Rokafella, produced by Full Circle Productions with music by Kwikstep. I´ve been blessed to work with Rok and am moved by the team´s love and commitment to pushing the project forward. From dance floor to the home, the film tracks several B-Girls moving crowds stateside and abroad. It´s a perspective rarely acknowledged and for any lover of music or dance—especially if you consider yourself a hip-hop head—ATLS needs to be on your radar.

The final stages of production are coming up! A NY screening will be held at Dance New Amsterdam to help raise funds. Q & A will follow, and the evening closes out with live music and dance for everyone to work out their moves. Spread the word, show some love, and pay respect to the B-Girl. Admission $10. Learn more about the herstory of the project at www.alltheladiessay.com or www.fullcirclesoul.com.

Docs We Love :: Favela On Blast

Filmmakers Leandro Hbl and Wesley “Diplo” Pentz’s documentary Favela On Blast gives us an intimate look at one of Rio De Janeiro’s funk scene, also known as baile funk. Think Miami bass meets Brazil. Regardless of how you feel about Diplo’s appropriation of this music, the film captures the scene within the marginalized favelas of the city, breaks down the most popular “beats” & styles while translating the sometimes crass & hyper-sexualized lyrics.

Docs We Love :: I'm Biracial...Not Black

Our good friend, Carolyn Battle Cochrane has a new documentary, I’m Biracial…Not Black, which explores the issues faced in the daily lives of biracial individuals in both the Black and White communities. Now, Carolyn wants to spread her message even farther, through Oprah’s Search For the Next TV Star. If Carolyn gets enough votes, she could have her very own TV show that covers the subject of multicultural communities, as well as the racial issues that face our country every day.

Films We Love :: Oliver Stone's South Of The Border

With the American media profiling Hugo Chávez as the biggest threat since Al Qaeda, Oliver Stone travelled to Venezuela to meet the President himself. In his new documentary, South Of The Border, Oliver Stone and his film crew travel through Central and South America, meet seven different world leaders, and find out the truth about Hugo Chávez.

Films We Love :: Jean-Michel Basquiat : The Radiant Child

We’ve been hearing a lot about this film and are happy it’s finally seeing the light of day. This documentary seems like it’s going to be a real treat for all Basquiat fans being that the film was made by Tamara Davis, who was a personal friend of the artist. Looking forward to a refreshing look at Basquiat as seen through the eyes of a friend rather than through the lens of the art world machine.

Films We Love :: We Live in Public - The Rise, Fall + Mental Collapse of Josh Harris (pseudo.com)

Over the weekend I came across a very intriguing documentary about the rise, fall + mental collapse of one of the dot.com’s 1st true visionaries and pioneers, Josh Harris. Harris, was the mind behind Pseudo.com, an online TV channel, which in many ways broke ground into what the future of online media had in store.

films we love :: the prosecution of george w. bush for murder

I’m still in awe over the impact of this trailer for “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder”. This is both a film and subject matter that simply can not be ignored any longer. No matter what side of the political line you choose to stand on, this is one subject I hope we can all agree on- No Justice, No Peace….
