If you’re unfamiliar with Afrobeat, a Nigerian brand of funk unlike any other, you may have been living under a rock for the past twenty years. But Femi Kuti, the son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, is here to drag you out from under that rock, hips shaking the whole the way.

As a part of Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing program, Femi Kuti + The Positive Force will be playing on Monday, July 12th. The performance will be preceded by a dance lesson by Maija Garcia, the associate choreographer of FELA!, the Afrobeat Broadway musical based on Femi’s father’s work. DJ duties will be handled by Rich Medina with Sahr.

The dance lesson begins at 6:30, the performance begins at 7:30.
