Exhibits We Love :: Yuri Shimojo, Edifice Cache

This is the final week of the evolving Edifice Cache exhibit featuring Yuri Shimojo, one of our favorite artists & friends at the Morono Kiang Gallery. While Yuri has been working non-stop on her pieces this week, we have been busy editing a short profile we shot with her a few months ago. We are very pleased to share her many talents, inspiration and fascinating life story with you, so look out for it in the next few days.
Last week, artist Favianna Rodriguez added her beautiful and colorful pieces, which was documented in the time lapse below. We will definitely be there to witness the culmination of this month-long show. Join us if you can! – Moni Vargas
Exhibits We Love :: John Carr, Edifice Cache

This is the third week of the Edifice Cache exhibit at the Morono Kiang Gallery. We’ve been keeping you updated every week with the new works. This past week, we had the pleasure of seeing John Carr’s contribution to the evolving “edifice” and there is a timelapse of the process for you to see.
On Saturday, February 5th, join us for the fourth reception celebrating the work of Favianna Rodriguez. Check this out post to learn more about Edifice Cache. – Moni Pineda
Music We Love :: Brandt Bauer Frick

Hot off their performance at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards in London last week, the German trio, Brandt Bauer Frick, has confirmed upcoming performances at Coachella & SXSW. In case you’re not familiar with them, have some fun with “Teufelsleiter” on their genius player below. You can also check out their video, “Bop” and see a clip of their performance at the WWA (at 3:00) thanks to Lefto’s recap. – Moni Pineda
Timelapse We Love :: Augustine Kofie, Edifice Cache

As I promised, we’ll be posting these fantastic timelapses of the evolution of Edifice Cache, the four week installation at the Morono Kiang Gallery in downtown Los Angeles. This second video features the work of Augustine Kofie, as he is painting and installing his contribution for last week’s reception. Kofie’s style marries the energy of the futurists with architectural drafting techniques that are at times softened by warm portraits and text.
The next reception happens this Saturday, January 29 and features the work of John Carr, who will be feverishly working all week on location giving the public a rare glimpse into his installation & creative process.
Check out our last post to learn more about Edifice Cache. – Moni Pineda

Kickstarter We Love :: Andrew: Story of a Closet Monster

Our friend and past FWL contributor, Elliot Lobell, is working on his senior film, Andrew: Story of a Closet Monster. He has a Kickstarter set up for the project and although he reached his goal, as we all know, films are expensive – especially when you’re dealing with stop-motion animation. So, if you’re inspired by his work, pledge what you can and help spread the word! – Moni Pineda
Timelapse We Love :: Mike Russek, Edifice Cache

This is the first timelapse documenting Mike Russek’s contribution to the Edife Cache exhibit at Morono Kiang Gallery which will be unfolding in the upcoming weeks. We love seeing the process of transformation and look forward to more of these in the weeks to come. The first of four receptions for the artists will be held on Saturday January 22, from 6-9 pm. The exhibition will run from January 18 to February 19, 2011.
