Music We Love :: MOS DUB – Mos Def Dub Remix by Max Tannone

One of our favorite things about creating a site solely based around the things that inspire us, is the ripple effect. Creative karma is a beautiful thing, and because of it we’ve been receiving all kinds of amazing art in a wide array of mediums from films, to photos to music.
This week we received an email from Producer Max Tannone about a new mix he’d created called MOS DUB. In short, it’s a mix of some of Mos Def’s joints set to a dub reggae vibe. Another simple idea done very well. Needless to say as a serious fan of both Mos + Dub music I couldn’t hit the play button fast enough. I’m sure everyone including my neighbors are happy that Max sent over that MOS DUB mix. We hope you and your neighbors enjoy it as much as we do…
music/videos we love :: mos def ft. talib kweli – history

It’s been really inspiring to watch Mos Def grow as an artist, performer, actor and force of nature. The man exudes all the characteristics of someone doing exactly what’s he’s been put on this earth to do- Create. Progress. Challenge. This beautiful video reunites Mos with fellow Black Star, Talib Kweli. Can’t lie, we just love seeing these two at it again.
music/videos we love :: mos def – supermagic

Photographer + Music Video Director Nabil Elderkin has quickly become one of my favorite image makers this year. From the multi-layered “T.I.A” music video for K’naan to his black + white mini-horror music video for Kanye West’s “Paranoid”, to this trippy one shot take of Mos Def rapping in image trails. The boy’s been in a ZONE! With a steady growing stable of music videos and promos, Nabil has proven he’s one to watch…
hip-hop we love :: “the cypher” ft. mos def + black thought + eminem
THIS IS WHY I LOVE HIP-HOP!!!
This clip is an excerpt from “The Cypher” series produced by B.E.T. In this “cypher” they showcase 3 of the best to ever do it- Mos Def, Black Thought and Eminem. Nuff said…
Docs We Love :: Downtown Calling

“Downtown Calling” documents the New York City of the late 70s and early 80s that we love & often romanticize. The New York that gave birth to the music, art, fashion, attitude and overall aesthetic that still influences our lives today. Our friend Shan Nicolson serves as director/producer, Ben Velez also produces & none other than Deborah Harry narrates. There’s interviews with a host of downtown characters and culturati including Fab 5 Freddy, Bobbito Garcia, Nelson George, Jazzy Jay, Mos Def and Mayor Ed Koch.
Watch the trailer of Downtown Calling or catch the doc at the Austin Film Festival next week. Nice job yo!
