Street Layers We Love :: Vinny Cornelli, Photographer & guest blogger

Street Layers We Love :: Vinny Cornelli, Photographer & guest blogger

There are times when you meet someone haphazardly only to realize you share similar passions, interests and perspectives. This is what happened when I met Vinny Cornelli. Soon after we exchanged information, we checked out each other’s work and we realized we wanted to collaborate somehow. So here we are.

Vinny is in finance by day and by night he documents public art through his project Street Layers, photographs for Brooklyn Vegan & Brooklynstreetart and now writes for Friends We Love as a guest blogger. This past summer he needed to get his Radiohead fix and planned a tour through Europe that included back to back concerts, street art photography and studio visits with some great artists. He’s got stories for days and we couldn’t be happier that he’d like to share them with us.

Art We Love :: Jason Eppink – Pixelator

Although the Pixelator public art project has been around for a few years, I think it’s relevant and inspiring enough to share. Jason Eppink, or anyone else who would like to create one, transforms those annoyingly bright LED screens of commercials by subway entrances into beautifully colorful “pixelated” installations. He even has instructions on how to create your own! I love this type of art.

sites we love :: webdesignledger.com

When I first discovered Webdesignledger.com I got really excited, especially when I started clicking around. I’ll let you experience that on your own. In the meantime, I’ll give you a couple of “Best of” entries that were particularly exciting – The Best Free WordPress Themes of 2009 & The Best Photoshop Tutorials of 2009. I also love all the free textures, fonts, tips, inspiration, overall helpful tools for all of us who work in visual digital media. I’m in LOVE with this site!
Additionally, I found a whole other site through WDL where you can create a flash site for free! Take a look at Wix.com and have fun.

Please let us know what you discover & create!

Exhibits We Love :: Free Emporium & Gift Exchange

Free Emporium & Gift Exchange is a new exhibit by artists Athena Robles & Anna Stein of Double A Projects especially designed for the Cuchifritos space in perfect timing for the holiday season. At this interactive exhibit you can bring unused gifts and exchange them for other unused gifts, take a look at original works of art and give your response to the whole experience. It is a “franchise” of the Global Free Store and continues the work of Double A Projects to examine alternative systems of support.

Contests We Love :: Win Tickets to DJ Spooky Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica

Antarctica is one of the most remote places on Earth, and it’s the only landmass with no government. My music piece is a reflection of those kinds of issues, and some of the other more concrete things facing us – climate change, rampant pollution, and the way art, music and literature can raise awareness about these issues. I’m inviting the www.djspooky.com facebook, myspace, and youtube crew to check out the premier and the other concerts.

We’re giving away two tickets for each show: Dec 2nd, 4th, and 5th.

Write a poem about Antarctica and climate change and myself and a panel of www.djspooky.com poetry experts will pick the prize winning poem! Participate and experience Antarctica, as few have ever seen it. Check it out on NPR’s All Things Considered.

Submit a poem on Antarctica or climate change to win tix!
EMAIL US AT: ticketgiveaway@djspooky.com
Entries must be received by noon on the day BEFORE the show you’d like to attend.

As a bonus – whoever can also make sure to submit the answer to this question will win a special bonus prize: Ice for your face – who coined the term “bling bling or ice-grill”

Art We Love :: Aakash Nihalani - Boxing in India

Aakash Nihalani, a most definite artist + friend we love recently to a trip back to his Motherland of India. Thankfully while their he taped the town red, so to speak, by adding his unique fluorescent geometric flair to the urban landscapes of New Delhi and Mumbai. Happy to see his art and ideas expanding further and further each time we check in. Great job Aakash!
