Photographers We Love :: Matilde Campodónico

By contributing artist Jennifer Cendaña Armas

Matilde Campodónico: my favorite photographer and a friend I love. Her use of space is wondrous to me, the shapes of her subjects are so crisp, and a sense of curiosity always seems to peek out. I can´t help but think, ¨She is meant to be doing this.¨

I first discovered her photos of musicians. A touch of Google and I found work ranging from past exhibitions to current events photos in The Associated Press. After more Googling and some praying, I had my own session with Mati in Uruguay, where she resides. She is just as fabulous in person as I hoped (and also one great tour guide of Montevideo).

Street Art We Love :: Banksy vs Robbo

Street Art We Love :: Banksy vs Robbo

When we saw these photos & read the article in the Wall Street Journal (out of all places) we couldn’t help but wonder what’s really behind all this. We came up with a few scenarios and the one that we’d like to believe is as follows. Given Banksy superstar status, why would he so blatantly write over a Robbo tag that’s a reigning piece from an era? Is this Banksy’s way of pulling a legend out of a 16yr retirement? Is this a way for Banksy to shed light on a writer who was the first London “all-city” bomber but who has never sold a “piece” in his career? We’re giving Banksy the benefit of the doubt because it wouldn’t make much sense otherwise. The article has a great slideshow featuring the photos below and deserves a closer look.

videos we love :: mike vallely's farewell to the bk banks 2010

Here’s a short + heartfelt video by pro skateboarder Mike Valley saying goodbye to one of his favorite skate spots, The Brooklyn Banks. For many who may not know, beneath the Brooklyn Bridge (on the Manhattan side) lies on of the most coveted skate spots the world has ever known. For many skaters, it’s a destination “you must” skate before you die.

sites we love :: earthalbum.com

If you love to travel, explore culture & take photos, this is the site for you. Earthalbum.com “started out as a hobby project and has begun to take on a life on its own,” says Ed Park. It’s a basically a mashup of Google maps & Flickr where you can zoom into any location and find photos from that region that have been uploaded to Flickr. Since photos are uploaded everyday, you may have a different experience each time you visit a location. It’s like taking mini visual vacations to exotic destinations we’ve always wanted to visit. Genius!
