If you’re a Brooklynite whose begun noticing a massive amount of chickens with dicks for heads popping up around the neighborhood, you’re not alone. The stencils, sculptures + tags are the handy work of Dickchicken himself. A man with a soft spot for the whimsy on a mission to make people laugh, think or in some cases anger with his satirical view on art, graffiti and chickens with dicks for heads.

The time has come. Poster Boy’s The War of Art will launch in NY, LA, London & Miami tomorrow with simultaneous signings, screenings and overall celebrations. The release of this book will also officially kick off K.A.R.A.T.E., (Kids Are Rallying Against The Empire), a a grass roots effort that will eventually turn into a non-profit organization serving as a legal defense fund for artists.
Even at its infancy K.A.R.A.T.E. has managed to get Henry Matyjewicz, a Poster Boy participant, out of prison on appeal only two weeks after being sentenced to 11months by a superior court in New York. Mr. Matyjewicz is now being represented by world class civil rights lawyer, Ron Kuby. Because of K.A.R.A.T.E. Mr. Matyjewicz now stands a fighting chance in court.
Please join us tomorrow for a good cause, some great films, prints, signed books & tunes. Help us celebrate our ever dwindling first amendment rights!
For more info, check out our Poster Boy story, our video profile and his work.

The founders of BrooklynStreetArt.com, Jaime Rojo and Steven P. Harrington, have just published Street Art New York, a look at 102 artists from around the world who have left their art-mark on the Big Apple. The list of artists includes some of whom we’ve featured on Friends We Love – Invader, Poster Boy & Ellis G. There will also be a silent auction on April 24 to benefit “Free Arts NYC” and a party for the release of the book. Unfortunately we won’t be able to make it, so please enjoy the art and good times for us!

The best part of embarking on a web series about art is meeting new artists. About a year ago I came across an article in New York Magazine about a young crazy razor blade swinging street artist. His name was Poster Boy. Luckily for me the article included his Flickr page and away I went clicking. After seeing a pretty impressive body of work all created out of subway adverts, I decided to reach out.
