Exhibits We Love :: Kara Walker

There are two exhibits by Dr. Kara Walker currently on display in New York City. At the Lehman Maupin Gallery, she is presenting Fall Frum Grace, Miss Pipi’s Blue Tale, three new video works of shadow puppetry based on her experience in the Mississippi Delta. The second exhibit at Sikkema Jenkins, Dust Jackets for the Niggerati-and Supporting Dissertations, Drawings submitted ruefully by Dr. Kara E. Walker, are graphite drawings and hand printed texts dealing with transition, migration and identity in terms of race and power dynamics. Ms. Walker’s work is best appreciated in person and within the context of the exhibition. If you will be in NYC before June 4, 2011, please experience it for yourself. – Moni Vargas
